In 1997 our
outpost in Guatemala
became the third Engineering Ministries International (eMi) office to
open. We are still small but we
are continually growing and will soon be welcoming our fifth full-time
professional staff member. eMi
is an inter-denominational Christian organization working to bridge the
gap between design professionals with much to offer on one side and the
needs of developing countries on the other. We completely rely on the generosity
of others for our finacial support, and never charge for our
services. Our goal is to offer
assistance to ministries that will better enable them to meet people’s
physical and spiritual needs. In
our history, we have provided professional designs for schools,
hospitals, church buildings, orpanages, clinics, and other worthwhile projects. We also involve ourselves in
topographical surveys and construction management.
Here in Guatemala
we have four full-time staff members, but much of what we accomplish is
with the assistance of volunteers who come to work on-site for one or
two weeks at a time. We also
have an internship program for engineering and architecture students,
with anywhere between two to five interns with us at any given time.
